Rast Produce Company was formed in February of 1997, with a business philosophy based on three things: integrity, experience and ability.
The company has a combined agricultural experience of over eighty-five years. Our business has a proven successful track record and a superb reputation throughout the industry. All of our business dealings are sound, honest and ethical. We believe there is no substitute for integrity in this industry. Because our business is based on trust, we do whatever it takes to be sure our dealings are fair to all parties.

John Rast began his career in the produce industry after graduating from San Francisco State University in 1977 with a degree in Business and a minor in Economics, with Dole Food Company. John worked at Dole for eight years, and finally Pacific West for three years before starting his own company. He has been actively selling and marketing produce for over twenty-five years. Rast has personally visited every major market in North America, and numerous key export markets including Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, Chile, Mexico and Europe. His experience and ability have given him a reputation for his comprehensive knowledge of the produce industry. John believes there is no substitute for integrity. All of his business dealings are based on trust and doing what is right and fair for all parties.
When he is not working, he is busy with his family, volunteering his time coaching soccer and playing softball and basketball.

Art Christman is a graduate from the University of California at Davis. He received his degree in Agricultural Management, Finance & Economics with honors in 1976. Art has been in agricultural sales and management for his entire professional career. His many years in the produce industry include employment at Pandol Bros., Inc., Suma Fruit (Del Monte), Fruit Marketing, Inc., and H&W Enterprises (Bari Produce). Over all these years Art has acquired a unique experience and knowledge in the growing, harvesting, packing, storing and marketing of California fresh produce as well as imported fresh produce. Art has traveled the world over, learning about the special needs of domestic and export customers. He believes that knowledge is the driving force in sound produce sales. "Know what your customer needs, inform them on their options and deliver what they order" are the words on which Art's livelihood is based.
Look for him out on the golf course or relaxing with his new bride when he has some free time.
a.k.a. Marcus Hirnimus, the Hirndog is an avid outdoorsman with an emphasis on mountain biking and skiing.
After completing courses at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the spring of 1986 Mark worked on the Sales desk at Gerawan Farming for three seasons. He then sold citrus and tree fruit for Riverbend Sales for two years before starting work at S. L. Douglass in Exeter. He sold grapes, pears and tree fruit for ten years. When Jim Douglass decided to sell the farming and packing operation, he contacted John Rast about working a joint venture on marketing for the last year of operation. Mark has been working with Rast Produce ever since. Mark has a thorough working knowledge of all aspects of fruit growing, harvesting, packing and sales. He has traveled extensively throughout North America and has gained many valuable contacts over the years. Mark has a reputation for honest, ethical dealings and his experience is a valuable asset to Rast Produce Company and his customers.
